History of the Romeo y Julieta brand

Named after William Shakespeare´s tragic lovers, the origins of the Habanos brand Romeo y Julieta date back to 1875.  

The brand became world-famous during the early 20th century under the leadership of Don 'Pepin' Fernandez, because this talented businessman was one of the first to recognize the power of the abdominal bandage.

During his heyday, no less than 20,000 different belly bandages were used for production. The brand's diversity of formats is also legendary - until 1959 alone, Romeo y Julieta produced over 1,000 different Vitolas.

Winston Churchill, probably the most prominent lover of the Romeo y Julieta brand, who visited Havana in 1946, was honoured in a special way. His preferred format, Julieta No.2, cigars with a length of 178 mm and a diameter of 18.65 mm were named after him. Today they still wear golden belly bands with the name of the British Prime Minister and Nobel Prize winner.

Balanced and aromatic Romeo y Julieta tobacco blends, all from the Vuelta Abajo, characterise these classic, medium-strong Habanos. The description of their taste goes from floral, nutty, herbal to "juicy", fruity, woody, also roasted aromas (cocoa, coffee, vanilla, etc.) are abundant, but none comes to the fore.

To this day the Habanos brand Romeo y Julieta still offers the most comprehensive selection of totalmente a mano, tripa larga formats of all Habanos brands - completely handmade long filler.
hibas are made, created. They consist of special blends of selected tobacco leaves from the best Vegas Finas de Primera (first quality plantations) of the Vuelta Abajo region and are known for their variety of classic flavours. The predominant impression is floral, herbal notes, a faint honey sweetness and a mild tobacco taste. The aromas are complex and very well balanced.
