History of the brand
H. Upmann

In 1844 the brothers Hermann and August Hupmann, who came from a German banking family, registered the trademark. The legend wants to know that they prefixed their surname with the "H" and the dot as an abbreviation for Hermanos - Spanish brothers - after they had robbed it of the very H that is not spoken in Spanish.

The success of the Hupmanns was guaranteed by their efforts to deliver first-class quality. Packed in boxes made of Spanish Cedar wood, with a guarantee declaration and Hermann Hupmann's signature, the cigars made their way to Europe, where they were initially intended primarily as gifts for Hupmann's customers. But the triumph of Havana around the middle of the 19th century helped the brand to establish a permanent presence. Hermann Hupmann was one of the five owners of the largest cigar factories in Cuba, which formed the "Havana Brand Association" to better protect themselves against counterfeiting. The later merger of the bank and cigar factory led to difficulties and a change of ownership. However, the H.Upmann brand traditionally guaranteed the production of excellent Habanos with a light to medium flavour.

Character of the H. Upmann cigar

All leaves of the H.Upmann cigars come from the tobacco region Vuelta Abajo.
No less than 14 medals, including eleven gold medals from international exhibitions during the 19th century, decorate the boxes in which Upmann cigars are packed.

The taste is characterized by clean tobacco notes and minimal additional aromas. Upmann cigars are extremely mild in their youth.

Today the brand consists of a large selection of 'totalmente a mano, tripa larga' - completely handmade longfillers - as well as machine-made cigars.
